How it goes
- 01
Photograph the appliance and the path out: the doorway, the steps, the tight corner.
- 02
See a rough estimate in seconds, then pick a time. Book by 2pm and it can go today, if availability allows.
- 03
Two crew dolly it out, load it, and take it intact to the transfer station.
Anything with a compressor travels intact.
Fridges, chest freezers, window air conditioners, dehumidifiers and water coolers all hold refrigerant, and the law says it has to be recovered with the right equipment by someone trained to do it. The transfer station does that and charges a per-unit fee for it, coolant or no coolant.
The Tacoma station charges it even when the compressor is already gone. So do not cut the lines or pull the compressor to save money. It saves nothing, and venting it is against the law. The fee is on us, part of the disposal your estimate already includes.
What we take (and don’t)
We take
- Refrigerators, chest freezers and upright freezers
- Washers, dryers and stacked laundry units
- Dishwashers
- Ranges, ovens, cooktops and range hoods
- Water heaters, drained
- Window air conditioners and dehumidifiers
- Microwaves, water coolers and small appliances
We don’t
- Appliances still hooked up to gas, water or power. Disconnect them first, or have a plumber or electrician do it.
- Commercial refrigeration, walk-ins and restaurant equipment
- Anything leaking oil, fuel or coolant onto the floor
- TVs, monitors and computer towers by photo. The station charges per set, so we quote those by hand. E-Cycle Washington drop-off sites across the county take them free from households.
- Propane tanks, including the one from the grill
Unsure about something? Put it in a photo and we will say whether we take it.
Taking one thing only? A single washer or fridge has a flat price, and the page says what the price covers.
Disconnect before we come. Gas capped, water off and the lines drained, cord out of the wall. A water heater has to be drained too: a full 50-gallon tank holds more than 400 pounds of water, and it is not coming up the basement stairs full. We carry appliances.
We do not do plumbing, gas or electrical work.
Common questions
Do I need to disconnect it first?
Yes. Gas capped, water off, cord unplugged, and a water heater drained. We carry it out; we do not do plumbing, gas or electrical work. If the gas line needs a cap, call a plumber before you call us.
Can you take a fridge with the freon still in it?
Yes, and that is how it should travel. The transfer station recovers the refrigerant and charges a per-unit fee for it. That fee is on us and part of the disposal your estimate already includes. Do not vent it, cut the lines or pull the compressor: the station charges the same either way, and venting it is against the law.
Will you take it from the basement or upstairs?
Yes, from the basement or upstairs. If stairs carry a charge, your estimate shows it before you book. Mention a tight staircase or a narrow door when you book so the crew brings the right dolly and plans the time.
Do you scrap appliances for free?
No. A scrapper may take a washer for free if it is at the curb, because the steel is worth something to them. A fridge is different: the refrigerant fee at the station is more than the scrap steel is worth, which is why scrappers pass on them. We charge for the pickup, the carry and the disposal, and the estimate shows that before you book.
Do you take old TVs and monitors?
By hand, not by photo. The transfer station charges per set for TVs and monitors, so the automatic estimate does not price them. Say so in the notes and a person quotes it. If you would rather not pay for that part, E-Cycle Washington takes TVs, monitors, laptops and towers free from households at drop-off sites across Pierce County, and we take everything else.
